Crews searching for firefighter spot his dog again

FILLMORE, Calif. (AP) — Searchers have once again spotted the dog of a missing California firefighter who walked away barefoot and vanished during a mountain hike nearly a week ago.

Searchers on Thursday spotted Mike Herdman's dog, Duke, in the Los Padres National Forest above Fillmore.

Ventura County sheriff's Sgt. Eric Buschow says the animal looked healthy but ran off — just as it did Wednesday night.

Herdman and another Arcadia firefighter were camping last Friday when Herdman ran off barefoot after his dog and vanished.

The Pasadena Star-News (http://bit.ly/1pO09p7 ) says Thursday's search included two unmanned Sheriff's Department aircraft and a drone from the company AeroVironment.

Eleven members of a federal Homeland Security rapid response team also assisted.
